"Did you know what is the middle verse in the Bible? It is Psalms 118:8, "It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man."

MINISTRIES

The Bible clearly lays the responsibility of the spiritual nurture of children in the hands of their parents. There is often the mistaken notion that a church's Sunday school exists to 'take over' the parents' responsibility, but attempting to nurture children spiritually by taking them to Sunday school 2 hours a week would be a poor strategy, as compared to multiple hours at home.

Our Children's Ministry therefore first aims at complementing the parents by facilitating them in their task, and then by teaching the children lessons that build on the foundation the parents have laid. Ultimately the aim is to enable the children to love God with all their 'heart, mind, soul, and strength' and to love their neighbors as themselves (Matt 22: 37 - 38). Some children however, do not come from homes where they are being spiritually nurtured, and so we also work hard at presenting the gospel in a clear manner that affords them an opportunity to know Christ as their Savior, and to grow in maturity.

The children ministry, being one of the central ministries at Disciples Fellowship International, has it's eyes fixed on discipling children between the ages of 2 - 12 years. This is done in the context of a Sunday school where children gather together every Sunday morning for worship. The children then later break up into age-related groups for a time of Bible study, discussion and reflection. The advantage of this is that there is much flexibility built into the class sessions so that new children can join at any time. This also allows the parents to attend the morning worship service.

Apart from our Sunday school activities, the children are also involved not only in presentations within the main services, but also in other activities, which increase their social skills while building their character and knowledge of God:

This happens during thesummer holidays and it offers a significant opportunity for instruction and discipleship. Spiritual disciplines like quiet time are taught. Creative crafts help to reinforce the Bible lessons taught, while fun times and games allow for informal learning through group dynamics and observing the teachers as models of fair-play.
